Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that new signing Kolo Toure won’t be taking part in tomorrow’s Champions League qualifier against FC Astana.

The veteran defender joined Celtic over the weekend to reunite with his former Liverpool manager at Paradise, and is expected to provide much needed experience to their backline.

With a couple of senior defenders missing due to injury, there were suggestions that Rodgers could opt to use Toure as a wild card inclusion in Celtic’s squad for tomorrow night.

However, the Celtic boss confirmed that Toure won’t be playing tomorrow as he feels one training session is not enough for a player to go straight into the team for a crucial European game.

When asked about Toure, Rodgers said in a press conference: “He is close to being available.

“I felt it would be unfair to bring him with just having one day with the team."

Toure has already made 64 appearances in the Champions League for Arsenal, Manchester City and Liverpool, but won’t be making his 65th tomorrow in a Celtic shirt.

Rodgers will be hoping that his young defenders see Celtic through in what could be a tricky first leg in Kazakhstan.
