Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham admits that the friendly against Burnley this weekend will be a step-up in preparations for the new season.

The Gers have been in good form lately and have safely moved on to the last 16 of the Scottish League Cup by winning all their group games, without either conceding a goal or dropping a point.

Mark Warburton’s team have also looked in good nick in their pre-season games, but are expected to face a stiffer fight when they take on Burnley this weekend at Ibrox.

Burnley won the English Championship to earn automatic promotion, and like Rangers, are preparing for life in the top tier.

Foderingham admits that the game against the Clarets will be a step up in class and competition, and feels it is probably time Rangers face opposition of such pedigree before the Premiership season

However, he added not too much should be made out of pre-season matches as they can never be compared to the level of competitive games.

The Rangers goalkeeper told the Herald Scotland: "The Burnley game will be a step up in class but we feel we are ready for it now.

“We’ve had a few weeks of pre-season under our belts – it’s probably time to step things up and the Burnley game will be a good test.

"It always takes a while until you get to your optimum level.

"I know these games are competitive but with all due respect to the standard, until you get into the actual league campaign it can take a while.”
