It is a "big prize" to be compared with Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has insisted.

The Argentine manager's team are set to take on Simeone's team in an International Champions Cup match in Australia on Friday.

Ahead of the match, Pochettino took time to speak about his admiration for his Atletico Madrid counterpart, insisting that the work the Argentine has done at the club is commendable.

And so to be compared to his countryman, who has led Atletico Madrid to European finals, is a compliment for the Spurs boss, who is a big fan of Simeone's work.

"If you compare me to Diego Simeone, that's a big prize, because I consider him one of the best in the world", Pochettino was quoted as saying by beIN Sports.

"He deserves all the credit because obviously it's difficult to take a team like Atletico Madrid and play finals – the Champions League final – and to win the league in Spain."

Speaking about the dream of managing the Argentina national team one day, the young manager said that both he and Simeone cherish that hope, but for now they have to be content with the jobs they are doing and continue doing well.

"One day, like me, I'm sure Diego hopes to manage Argentina, but not now."
