Leeds United want to complete the signing of free agent full-back Gabriele Perico, who has been on trial at Elland Road.

The experienced Italian was included in Leeds Under-21s' squad for last night's friendly defeat to Farsley Celtic as he looked to win over head coach Garry Monk.

The Whites have been looking to snap up another right-back, but Monk has been unconvinced by Fleetwood Town's Conor McLaughlin and free agent Reece Wabara.

Now Leeds are looking to sign Perico, according to Italian daily Gazzette dello Sport, in a move that would end their full-back pursuit.

Perico is a player Leeds owner Massimo Cellino knows well from his time as supremo at Italian club Cagliari.

The 32-year-old turned out for Cagliari from 2010 until 2014, when he departed for Cesena.

Perico has represented Italy at various youth levels, but has not won a senior cap.

Leeds have only paid transfer fees for two players this summer, splashing out for Marcus Antonsson and Kemar Roofe, however both fees were covered by the sale of Lewis Cook to Bournemouth.
