Leeds United have confirmed they are set to secure the loan signing of Spanish winger Pablo Hernandez, but claim "intense media speculation" put the move at risk.

The Whites have confirmed that the 31-year-old is to join the club on a six-month loan deal, with a view to a permanent move, from Qatari outfit Al Arabi.

News that Hernandez was on his way to Elland Road leaked out over the weekend and Leeds have explained that the media speculation put the move at risk, however they have managed to secure an agreement.

Leeds announced in a statement: "Intense media speculation put Pablo’s move in jeopardy but the club is pleased to have reached an agreement and Pablo would like to thank the fans for their support."

The Whites now plan to officially confirm the deal on Tuesday morning, when Hernandez joins his new team-mates at the club's Thorp Arch base.

Leeds added: "The 31-year-old will officially be announced as a Leeds United player on Tuesday morning when he links up with his new team-mates at Thorp Arch."

Hernandez left British football in 2014 when he departed Swansea City for Al Arabi.

A former Valencia player, he has had loan stints with Al Nasr and Rayo Vallecano over the last two years, but now returns to the British game with Leeds and will be working under a familiar face in former Swansea City boss Garry Monk.
