Charlie Taylor’s agent has handed in a transfer request to Leeds United on behalf of the player, requesting a departure from Elland Road this summer.

The 22-year-old defender was Leeds’ Player of the Year last season, and has been identified as one of the success stories of the club’s academy over the last few years.

However, he has only a year left on his contract with Leeds, and talks over a new deal have been stalled for some time, as the club and the player are yet to be on the same page.

And according to Radio Yorkshire, his agent handed in a transfer request on Sunday night on behalf of the player to force Leeds’ hand into selling the defender this summer.

Taylor has attracted interest from Premier League clubs, including West Brom, and it seems the defender has requested the club allow him to leave Elland Road.

Massimo Cellino has vented his frustration regarding Taylor’s contract negotiations in the recent past, but has also insisted that he won’t be selling the player.

And even new head coach Garry Monk recently stressed that he has no plans to see the young defender leave Leeds this summer.

Leeds have been losing their young players to more established teams in the Championship and the Premier League over the last few years, and Taylor could be the next to join the line.

Sam Byram left Leeds during the winter transfer window for West Ham, and they also lost Lewis Cook to Bournemouth this summer.
