New Leeds United signing Marcus Antonsson insists that his focus is firmly on the Yorkshire giants before he even thinks about being considered for the Swedish national team.

The striker was snapped up by the Whites on a three-year deal earlier this summer, signing from Kalmar, for whom he had been playing since last year.

The 25-year-old had in fact been in goalscoring form before signing for Garry Monk's team, scoring 10 goals in 12 games and was also awarded with the Allsvenskan’s Player of the Month award for May.

Antonsson's focus has now shifted though, with the player stressing his desire to continue working hard for his team so that he can get better and better with every game.

Having so far failed to make his national team debut for Sweden, the striker hopes that a change of scenery will help him break into the Sweden squad.

“Coming here is a big moment for me”, Antonsson was quoted as saying by the Yorkshire Evening Post.

“But my focus is just here and now – to perform all the time, to improve my play, to get better every time and, of course, to score goals.

"I have to score goals.

"If we work together, if everyone works, we’re going to be a really good team this year. I’m sure of that.”
