Aston Villa owner Dr Tony Xia has revealed the Championship side are aiming to sign up to eight new players before the transfer window slams shut this summer.

The Villa Park outfit were relegated from the Premier League last season and are bidding to bounce back up to the top flight at the first attempt.

They recently splashed out £12m to sign prolific Championship goalscorer Ross McCormack from Fulham, but have not significantly bolstered their squad yet, leading to criticism.

But Xia is confident big changes are coming and is looking for up to eight fresh faces at Villa Park soon.

He wrote on Twitter: "Our plan is to add seven to eight new players.

"We have three bids ongoing and two loans negotiating."

And Xia confidently added: "It will work out as planned."

The club owner and chairman also insisted that Villa are working as hard as they possibly can to bring in new players to bolster boss Roberto Di Matteo's squad.

He explained: "I'd stop saying much about transfers.

"I can say we have worked as hard as we can!

"So, Villa fans! Just enjoy the game and give your most support!"

Aston Villa start their bid for instant promotion back up to the Premier League tomorrow when they take on Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.
