Leeds United have received a boost in their efforts to land Liam Bridcutt as Sunderland are so keen to offload the Scotland international that they are prepared to allow him to leave on loan, according to the Chronicle.

Former Manchester United boss David Moyes has taken up the task of offloading players, as he looks to make room for new signings.

Bridcutt is among those to have fallen out of favour, training with the Under-23s at present along with two other first team players, Charis Mavrias and Jordi Gomez.

Leeds United, the Championship club with whom he spent the majority of last term on loan, are looking to have him back and have kept the number 26 shirt, which he wore last season vacant for him.

The Whites would like to snap Bridcutt up on a permanent deal and have been in talks with Sunderland and the player, but the midfielder's Premier League wages are a stumbling block.

The Black Cats though are keen to see him off their wage bill and could even go to the extent of allowing him to go out on loan post which his contract with the club will expire, next summer, and he will be allowed to leave for free.

And so, if Leeds cannot do a permanent deal for Bridcutt, they could still sign him on loan.

For any deal to go through though, it has to be completed by 31st August as the Football League no longer permits emergency loans.

The midfielder managed a total of 27 appearances for the Peacocks last term, having provided his team-mates with a lone assist.
