Birmingham City look unlikely to be successful in their pursuit of Manchester United striker James Wilson as he does not want to drop down to the Championship.

The Championship outfit have been keen to add Wilson to their squad this summer and the striker did have a spell on loan in England's second tier with Brighton last term.

However, according to the Press Association, the 20-year-old does not want to drop down to the Championship, something which looks to have ended Birmingham's hopes of signing him.

Wilson would need to have a rethink in order for the club to become a viable destination.

Manchester United are willing to loan Wilson out again in order that the striker can boost his first team experience and he will be hoping for a Premier League move.
