Nice, who finished a lofty fourth in Ligue 1 last season, have set their heart on capturing Emmanuel Riviere from Newcastle United.

The striker, who joined Newcastle from Monaco, has struggled to make his mark at St. James' Park and is expected to move on this summer, with several sides showing an interest.

Riviere scored goals regularly in French football and Nice are keen to take him back to Ligue 1, according to local newspaper the Nice Matin.

The 26-year-old was impressive during his time at Monaco from 2013 until 2014, form which earned him a switch to Newcastle.

Nice are convinced that the striker can still do the business in the French top flight and have been encouraged by the fact that Riviere wants to leave Newcastle.

A move to Nice would see Riviere link up with a side that finished fourth in Ligue 1 and play in the impressive new Allianz Riviera stadium.

Nice have European football to offer this term, having qualified directly for the Europa League group stage by virtue of their Ligue 1 finish.

Riviere has also attracted attention from Olympiacos, Hamburg and Rennes.
