Benfica are close to selling defender Luisao to English Championship side Wolverhampton Wanderers, who have offered the defender a lucrative contract to leave the Estadio da Luz.

Wolves, now managed by Italy legend Walter Zenga, are looking to bolster their squad before the transfer window slams shut later this summer.
 



And 35-year-old Luisao is on their wanted list.

He is now close to moving to Wolves who, according to Portuguese sports daily O Jogo, have offered the centre-back a €3m per year contract, running until 2018.
 


Luisao is a legend at Benfica and has been with the club since 2003, when he headed to Portugal from Brazilian side Cruzeiro.

The defender has made close to 500 appearances in all competitions for Benfica and has experience at the highest level, captaining the Portuguese giants in the Champions League.

He has been capped by Brazil at international level and has 44 caps to his name for the Selecao.
