Benfica are showing interest in Liverpool flop Luis Alberto.

Brendan Rodgers snapped up the Spaniard from Sevilla in 2013, but he struggled to adapt to English football and was sent back to Spain on loan with Malaga a year later.

Last term, Alberto was back in La Liga with Deportivo La Coruna and impressed, something which has led to him being linked with a return to Sevilla, while Valencia are also keen.

Now the duo have company as Benfica are also eyeing Alberto, according to Cadena SER.

Benfica believe the winger could flourish in Portugal and are in the mix to take him to the Estadio da Luz.

Alberto though could yet end up being a pawn in a larger game.

Indeed, Liverpool are interested in Valencia defender Shkhodran Mustafi and it has been suggested Alberto could form part of the deal.

Liverpool are currently claimed to value the 23-year-old at the €6m mark, a sum Valencia feel is too high.
