Napoli have rejected a bid of €58m from Chelsea for defender Kalidou Koulibaly and have no intention of selling him this summer.

Chelsea are desperate to land Koulibaly as Blues boss Antonio Conte looks to strengthen his defensive options before the transfer window slams shut until the winter.

And to turn Napoli's head, Chelsea lodged a €58m bid for Koulibaly.

But according to Italian outlet Calcio Mercato, Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has wasted little time in knocking it back.

The president is worried about how Napoli's fans might react if Koulibaly leaves as they have already seen Gonzalo Higuain join Juventus this summer.

As such, De Laurentiis intends to renew Koulibaly's contract and then cash in on the defender next year.

Koulibaly, who was a key man in Napoli finishing second in Serie A last season, has been angling for a substantial pay rise.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea go back in with another bid for the centre-back.
