Chelsea are ready to make a big money offer for Real Madrid winger James Rodriguez in the last period of the window, according to Spanish TV programme El Chiringuito.

The Blues were chasing the signature of their former striker Romelu Lukaku, but Ronald Koeman revealed during the weekend that the Belgian won’t be leaving Everton this summer.

Chelsea are not expected to push for the signature of the forward in the final period of the window, and it has emerged Real Madrid winger Rodriguez is their top target for the last week-and-half-of the transfer window.

The Colombian’s future at Real Madrid has been the subject of speculation all summer despite the winger insisting that he has no plans to leave the club for a new adventure.

Rodriguez has struggled to hold down a place in Zinedine Zidane’s starting eleven, and both the Real Madrid manager and the club are reportedly keen to offload him this summer.

Chelsea are expected to test the waters for the Colombian in the last few days of the window, and it has been suggested that they could make a bid of around €70m for the player.

Real Madrid could be willing to accept the big offer for someone who has been a bit part player since last season, but any proposed transfer boils down to the will of Rodriguez.

Rodriguez has been so far pushing to continue at Real Madrid this season, and it remains to be seen whether he decides to change his mind in the business end of the transfer window.
