Sunderland and Watford are both interested in signing former Liverpool defender Javier Manquillo from Atletico Madrid, according to Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo.

The right-back, who is surplus to requirements at Atletico Madrid, spent the 2014/15 season on loan at Liverpool before being shipped off to Marseille on a similar loan deal last term.

However, a host of clubs are interested in snapping up Manquillo in the summer, including the Premier League duo of Sunderland and Watford.

The Spaniard, who featured heavily for Marseille last term, has also managed to attract interest from Italy, with the likes of Roma, Napoli, AC Milan and Sassuolo all keen to rope in the 22-year-old.

Manquillo progressed through Atletico Madrid’s youth system and has thus far made just 17 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish giants since making his first team debut for the club in December 2011.
