Leeds United boss Garry Monk has revealed that new signing Pontus Jansson has instantly settled into the squad and is a "very good character".

The Whites snapped up the Swedish centre-back last week on a season-long loan deal from Italian side Torino and his towering, physically strong frame has been tipped to be ideally suited to the cut and thrust of England's second tier.

Monk opted against throwing Jansson in against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, but the Swede was with the squad at Hillsborough and soaked up the Yorkshire derby atmosphere.

The Leeds boss thinks Jansson will need some time to take his ideas on board, but in terms of character he is pleased with how the defender has quickly settled in.

"He has only been here a short time, but he is a very good character", Monk explained at a press conference.

"He has settled into the group in that respect.

"What he will need, like some of the others that have joined us this year, and some of the players that have been here before, because it is a new way of working, new ideas, I think all of them need a bit more time to understand those ideas and improve on them, which they are doing, but we're not there yet", the Leeds boss added.

Leeds are next in action on Tuesday night away to Luton Town, but with his back four having kept a clean sheet in the 2-0 weekend win away at Sheffield Wednesday, Monk may be tempted not to shake things up.

Jansson could remain at Leeds on a permanent basis and it has been claimed that the loan agreement contains a clause which will see the Whites buy him permanently if he plays 20 games for the club.
