Lorient have contacted Newcastle United over the possibility of signing Emmanuel Riviere and Yoan Gouffran, according to French sports daily L’Equipe.

While Riviere is yet to make an appearance for Newcastle United in the present campaign, Gouffran has managed to provide two assists in as many Championship outings this season.

However, Lorient are keen to snap up the Newcastle duo before the conclusion of the summer transfer window, albeit on loan deals.

Riviere, who has a year left on his present contract with the Magpies, has also managed to attract the interest of Nice, Hamburg, Olympiacos and Rennes.

The striker joined Newcastle from Monaco in the summer of 2014, but is yet to make his mark at St James’ Park; injuries and poor form meant that he played just 63 minutes of football last season.

Gouffran, whose present contract with Newcastle also runs until 2017, was roped in by the Magpies from Bordeaux in January 2013.

The winger has thus far made 98 appearances in all competitions for Newcastle, scoring 12 times and setting up 10 goals.
