Celtic defender Kieran Tierney feels that Patrick Roberts will be keen to take on Manchester City in the Champions League group stage this season.

The Scottish champions have been placed in Group C alongside Barcelona, Borussia Monchengladbach, and Manchester City, in what is being regarded as the toughest group in the Champions League.

Celtic open their campaign with a trip to Barcelona on 13th September, but Tierney has indicated that his team-mate Roberts will be more interested in playing against Manchester City.

The youngster joined Celtic from Manchester City in the winter transfer window on a loan deal until next summer, and the defender feels Roberts did want to face his parent club in the Champions League.

On whether Roberts was looking to face Manchester City, Tierney told Celtic TV: “I think he was.

“I am sure he can play against them, which is a bonus for us.

"He will want to do well.”

Roberts will have a chance to come up against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City when Celtic host them at Parkhead on 28th September.

Manchester City snapped him up from Fulham last summer, and the 19-year-old made three senior appearances for the club, before moving north of the border in February.
