Leeds United have been chasing a season-long loan deal for West Ham United striker Ashley Fletcher for a number of weeks, but have been scuppered by injuries to forward players at the London Stadium.

The Whites wanted to sign the striker when he knocked back a new contract offer from Manchester United earlier this summer, but Fletcher chose to remain in the Premier League by signing for West Ham.

He has also featured for the Hammers and was involved in their Europa League loss on Thursday night.

According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds have been chasing a loan deal for Fletcher for a number of weeks, as head coach Garry Monk looks to increase his attacking options.

But the weight of injuries at West Ham has derailed their hopes with Diafra Sakho, Andre Ayrew and Andy Carroll all out.

However, there may be renewed hope at Elland Road that Fletcher could be allowed to move, as the Hammers have just signed another striker.

Simone Zaza has arrived at the Premier League club from Juventus on a season-long loan deal.

It remains to be seen whether it affects Fletcher's future, with little time for Leeds to find out.
