Newcastle United are playing down a mooted swoop for Lazio midfielder Ravel Morrison.

The former Manchester United and West Ham midfielder has been tipped to leave the Rome giants after failing to make an impact with the club.

Morrison has been overlooked for both Lazio's Serie A games this season, a victory over Atalanta and a defeat to Juventus.

A move back to England could be possible for the midfielder, but according to the Chronicle, Newcastle are playing down the possibility of offering the ex-Manchester United man a home.

The Magpies have made a number of signings this summer as they seek to put together a squad to win promotion from the Championship at the first time of asking.

They are expected to do further business before the window slams shut on Wednesday night, but it remains to be seen whether Morrison will arrive at St. James' Park.

The midfielder has made just eight appearances in total for Lazio.
