Valencia will have to shift defender Aderlan Santos before making a move for Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo.

The Argentine has found life difficult under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United this season, and is yet to play a minute of Premier League football.

Other than a run out in the Community Shield against Leicester, Rojo remained an unused substitute against Bournemouth in the Premier League, and has not even featured in the matchday squads for the last two league games.

Valencia are interested in the Argentine defender, and the close relationship between super agent Jorge Mendes and club owner Peter Lim means a deal is possible in the final days of the window.

However, according to Valencia-based daily Superdeporte, the club would have to shift defender Santos out before making a move for Rojo before Wednesday’s deadline day.

According to La Liga provisions a club cannot have more than three non-EU players in their squad, and Valencia have been looking to offload Santos to make space.

However, they have so far failed to get the 27-year-old Brazilian off their books, therefore any move for Rojo would have to wait until Santos leaves Valencia this summer.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has indicated that he expects no arrivals or departures to or from his squad before Wednesday’s deadline day.
