Paris Saint-Germain have knocked back a bid of €40m from Chelsea for David Luiz, according to French magazine Le 10 Sport.

The Blues are desperately hunting another centre-back to add to their ranks before the window closes tomorrow night and have only met with disappointment so far.

Boss Antonio Conte has been searching in his native Italy, but bids for defenders at AC Milan, Napoli and Lazio have all been rebuffed.

And that is claimed to have led Chelsea to a familiar face in the shape of Luiz.

The Blues are said to have put €40m (£34m) on the plate for the PSG man, but the French champions have wasted little time in rejecting the proposal.

Although new PSG coach Unai Emery prefers a central defensive partnership between Marquinhos and Thiago Silva, the French side still have no intention of letting Luiz go so late into the window.

The 29-year-old was sold by Chelsea to PSG in 2014 for a fee of £50m.

Luiz has scooped up two Ligue 1 titles, two French Cups and two French League Cups during his time in Paris.
