Jason Denayer could join Sunderland before the transfer window slams shut, according to the BBC.

The 21-year-old, who is under contract with Manchester City, is keen to secure regular first team football this season, something which is unlikely to be the case if he stays at the Etihad Stadium.

Denayer spent the 2014/15 campaign on loan at Scottish champions Celtic, where he impressed, and last term turned out for Galatasaray on loan in Turkey.

Sunderland boss David Moyes is desperate to get bodies in the building before the transfer window slams shut.

And it emerged earlier this week that the Black Cats have been chasing the Belgium international, looking to bring him to the Stadium of Light on loan.

As the clock ticks down towards the closure of the transfer window, Sunderland are still hoping to push a loan move for Denayer over the line.

It remains to be seen if Sunderland bagging Denayer would affect Lamine Kone, who has been linked with a move away from the club amid interest from Everton.
