Tottenham Hotspur are expecting to beat off Everton to secure the signature of Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko in the final hours of deadline day.

Sissoko left the France national team camp earlier today to sort out his future, with Tottenham pushing to take the midfielder to White Hart Lane on the final day of the window.

Newcastle United rejected an initial bid of £16m from Tottenham last night, and Spurs came back with an improved offer of £25m earlier today, but it was still short of his asking price of £30m.

And the entry of Everton in the mix for the Frenchman earlier today further complicated the scenario for Tottenham as they kept on dithering over his price all day.

However, according to the BBC, it seems Spurs are confident of reaching an agreement with Newcastle United for the signature of the 27-year-old midfielder.

It is unclear whether they have agreed to pay his asking price or convinced Newcastle to reach a compromise, but Sissoko is tipped to join Tottenham in the next few hours.

With a deal close to being agreed, Tottenham are expected to press the accelerator to make sure Sissoko undergoes a medical and complete all the formalities to get the transfer over the line before the window slams shut later this evening.

The Frenchman has been insisting on joining a Champions League club all summer and it seems he will get his wish in the final hours of the transfer window.
