Heung-Min Son has decided to skip South Korea’s 2018 World Cup qualifier against Syria tomorrow in order to return to England to resurrect his Tottenham Hotspur career.

The forward, who joined Spurs from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, is yet to feature for the Premier League outfit in the current campaign.

Son was heavily linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer, with Bundesliga side Wolfsburg keen to snap him up.

But the 24-year-old, who scored eight times and set up five goals in 40 appearances in all competitions for Spurs last season, stayed put at White Hart Lane, despite the Wolves putting in an offer.

And Son will now miss his nation’s clash with Syria as he will return to England, with the South Korean hoping to force his way into Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino’s thinking.

"Tottenham are the team I wanted to join and I know that I have to work hard and play my best”, he told news agency AFP.

"I am in good condition and ready to go and play as well as I can.

"I am sorry to my national team-mates and coach, but I will support them and hope they get a good result against Syria."

Son, who featured in South Korea’s 3-2 win over China last week, has 46 caps and 16 goals for the nation to his name.
