Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho and Matteo Darmian’s relationship has ruptured and the defender is expected to leave Old Trafford in January, according to Italian daily Tuttosport.

Mourinho has insisted that most of the squad will get game time once the fixtures come thick and fast, but it seems there has been a breakdown in his relationship with Darmian.

The Italian defender has not featured in any of his matchday squads until now this season and it has been claimed that the 26-year-old has been left frustrated with his treatment at the club.

Darmian joined Manchester United from Torino last summer, and after good start to life in England, the Italian’s form withered away as the season progressed, with injuries also taking their toll.

And things have only gone south under new manager Mourinho, as Antonio Valencia has been preferred over the Italian as the first choice right-back at Old Trafford this term.

Juventus have kept a close watch on proceedings at Old Trafford regarding Darmian, and could make a move for Italian during the January transfer window.

Manchester United knocked back interest from Italy in the summer for Darmian, and it seems not getting a replacement was a concern as it has been claimed that Mourinho would have preferred to sell him.

With Valencia not returning to training from international duty until tomorrow, it remains to be seen whether Darmian finds a place in the squad for the Manchester derby this Saturday.
