Rangers midfielder Jordan Thompson was left seriously impressed with Romelu Lukaku after Everton destroyed Sunderland 3-0 at the Stadium of Light on Monday evening.

Lukaku struck first on the hour mark as he got on the end of a cross from Idrissa Gueye, heading into the back of the net from close range.

The Belgium international's second came in the 68th minute as another header was converted, this time Yannick Bolasie providing the service.

And in the 71st minute, Lukaku's third killed off Sunderland, with the striker hitting a low shot which nestled into the net, making it 3-0 to the visitors.

Thompson was impressed and the Rangers midfielder took to Twitter to write: "Lukaku is a beast!!!"

Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann was also full of praise for what he saw from Ronald Koeman's Everton side and stated his belief that the Reds' rivals could get close to a top four finish in the Premier League.

"Toffees could go places this year", Hamann wrote.

"Well balanced side, don't think they'll concede an awful lot of goals. Won't be far off top four."

Everton's win at the Stadium of Light has moved them up to third spot in the Premier League standings with ten points from their opening four matches.

Sunderland meanwhile are second bottom with only one point to show for their efforts and David Moyes will hope to turn the tide soon.
