Former Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt admits that he is eagerly waiting for the chance to take on Manchester United again this week, but admits that Jose Mourinho might field a second string side in Rotterdam on Thursday.

After suffering a narrow defeat at the hands of Manchester City on Saturday, Manchester United are keen to bounce back with a result against Feyenoord on Thursday night in their opening Europa League fixture.

However, they are expected to come up against an old bete noire in Kuyt, who was frequently a thorn in Manchester United’s side during his time at Liverpool in England.

In the twilight of his career, Kuyt is also keenly looking forward to taking on his old rivals on Thursday night, but he is wary that Mourinho could name a second string side in the Europa League encounter at De Kuip.

Kuyt could be given a fierce reception by the Manchester United fans, due to his rivalry with the Red Devils and the striker does not know what to expect, telling the Algemeen Dagblad: “It runs deep, so I will have to wait.”

On what kind of Manchester United line-up he is expecting at De Kuip on Thursday night, Kuyt said: “It remains to be seen; it could be a glorified B team, but it will still be a great team.”

Often Manchester United’s nemesis, Kuyt famously scored a hat-trick at Anfield in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over their north west rivals in March 2011.
