Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has revealed that Chelsea wanted to make him the most expensive Spanish footballer ever in the summer.

The European champions exercised the buy-back option to take Morata away from Juventus at the end of last season, and there was speculation that they were keen to put him up for sale to make a quick profit.

He was furiously linked with a move to England all summer, with Chelsea being one of his chief suitors, and Real Madrid reportedly knocked back a substantial offer from the Blues.

And Morata revealed that Chelsea indeed made a bid to snare him away from Spain in the summer, and offered big money to tempt Real Madrid into selling him.

"Chelsea showed the most interest", the 23-year-old forward told Sport Bild.

"Antonio Conte had already signed me for Juventus.

"And it was a very good offer this time. I would have been the most expensive Spanish player ever.

"[However] Real said that they have me in their plans, and that was always a dream of mine."

While not a regular at Real Madrid, Morata has started three of the four league games so far this season, and has a goal and an assist to his name.

He is also becoming more of an important player in the national team, and has already earned 15 international caps for Spain.
