Cameron Carter-Vickers has admitted that he was a little nervous before making his senior Tottenham Hotspur debut in an EFL Cup game against Gillingham on Wednesday night.

The young central defender was drafted in by manager Mauricio Pochettino to start against the Gills at White Hart Lane, with the home team ultimately winning the contest 5-0.

Two goals from Christian Eriksen on either side of half-time put Spurs 2-0 up before summer signing Vincent Janssen added to the north London outfit’s tally.

Josh Onomah and Erik Lamela also got their name on the scoresheet as Tottenham comfortably progressed to the next round of the domestic cup competition.

And Carter-Vickers, who explained that he was a bit nervous after Pochettino told him he was going to start against Gillingham, however, stated that making his senior debut for Tottenham in a 5-0 win was a dream come true moment for him.

“It’s a dream come true”, he told Spurs TV.

“I’ve been working hard all these years to get to this stage.

“So to play and win 5-0 is a dream.

“I got a little bit nervous [when the manager told me that I was playing], but that helps me, it keeps me on my toes, I think it’s good for me.”

Carter-Vickers, who played the full 90 minutes against Gillingham, is contracted with Spurs until 2018.
