Rangers new boy Matt Crooks has joked that when it comes to the type of player he most resembles, he is like a cheap Yaya Toure.

Toure, who has made just one appearance for Manchester City in the present campaign, joined the Citizens from Barcelona in 2010 and is widely considered to have been one of the finest all-action midfielders in European football in recent times.

The Ivorian has helped the Etihad Stadium outfit to two Premier League titles, one FA Cup and two League Cups, while turning out 269 times for the club, scoring 72 times and setting up 42 goals.

And Crooks, who joined Rangers from Accrington Stanley in the summer, has dubbed himself the “cheap version” of the former Barcelona star, thereby stating that the 33- year-old closest resembles the type of player he is.

“Cheap version of Yaya Toure”, he told Rangers TV, when asked which player he resembles the most.

Crooks went on to add that he prefers playing as a central midfielder as that way he can significantly contribute to both attacking and defending.

“Central midfield is my favourite position”, he continued.

“My drive to go forward and also my defensive [qualities] and presence in midfield [will help the team].”

Crooks, who missed the start of the season with an ankle injury, made his Rangers debut in the 5-0 win over Queen of the South in a Scottish League Cup quarter-final earlier in the week.
