Christian Benteke has hailed Crystal Palace's come from behind 3-2 win away at Sunderland as "massive".

Sunderland took the lead at the Stadium of Light when Jermain Defoe took advantage of a mistake from Joe Ledley, who hit a bizarre backpass to the striker, which he made no mistake from in the 39th minute.

The home side then made it 2-0 when Defoe scored again in the 60th minute, to leave Palace reeling and David Moyes' men on course for their first league win of the campaign.

But it only took a minute for the Eagles to get back into the game when Ledley made up for his earlier mistake to give the visitors hope.

And when James McArthur scored in the 76th minute, the comeback was firmly on.

It was completed by Benteke, who headed into the back of the net from a corner in the third minute of injury time.

Benteke was delighted with the Eagles taking all three points and believes the win was hugely important.

"That is a massive win. We knew it wasn’t going to be easy here ,but we showed, in the second half especially, great character", he was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"As a striker you have to be patient – I knew a chance would come.

"We wanted to win this game, we are in good shape and hopefully we can keep it going", Benteke added.

Crystal Palace's win has left Sunderland in serious early season trouble as the Black Cats have just one point from their opening six games and are bottom of the Premier League.
