Leeds United legend Eddie Gray believes the Whites have a great opportunity to reach the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup this season, and perhaps go even further.

The Yorkshire giants secured a place in the last 16 of the competition when they defeated Blackburn Rovers at Elland Road earlier this week, and have been drawn against Norwich City in the quarter-finals.

While Gray has indicated that he would have preferred a more glamorous tie against a Premier League side, the Leeds legend nevertheless believes that it is a wonderful opportunity for the club to go deep into the competition.

And with a number of big teams playing against each other in the quarter-finals next month, the former winger believes that there is a real chance that Leeds could be in the latter stages of the EFL Cup if they can beat Norwich City at Elland Road.

Speaking to LUTV about the EFL Cup draw, Gray said: “It could have been a little bit more glamorous.

“We are playing them quite soon in the league anyway, but it’s home tie and the way you can look at it is that it’s a great opportunity to be in the last eight, then you can never tell what can happen.

“I am sure every Leeds United fan has the dream of a trip to the big stadium to play in a cup final again, and that would be terrific.

“It’s an opportunity from that point of view, but you know look at some of the teams left in it – the two Manchester clubs are playing each other, a lot of the big guns are playing each other – that makes it interesting.

“We fought hard the other night to get there, and we have been rewarded with a home tie, you can’t ask for anything more than that.”

Leeds boss Garry Monk has regularly rotated his side in the EFL Cup, but it remains to be seen if he will do the same when Norwich visit.
