Rangers star Josh Windass has slammed the sting operation performed on England manager Sam Allardyce, which could result in the former Sunderland boss being sacked.

It was reported last night that Allardyce, who took charge of the England national team in late July, replacing Roy Hodgson, said that the Three Lions players were underperforming because they had a “psychological barrier” and “can’t cope”, during a sting operation performed by the Telegraph.

Several other allegations against the former Sunderland boss were also reported, including the 61-year-old using his position to negotiate a £400,000 deal and telling the undercover journalists that third-party ownership rules can be avoided.

However, Windass, who joined Rangers from Accrington Stanley in the summer, was utterly displeased with the manner in which the England manager was being treated by the media.

“Manager of our country and you lot are out to get him. Pathetic”, he tweeted, in reply to the Telegraph story.

Allardyce, whose first game in charge of England resulted in a 1-0 win over Slovakia in a World Cup qualifier earlier in the month, counts Bolton Wanderers, Blackburn Rovers, Newcastle United and West Ham United, amongst his former employers.

It remains to be seen whether he will manage to cling on to his position amid reports of a meeting with the FA having been set for later today.
