Mauricio Pochettino has highlighted the importance of Tottenham Hotspur bagging the full three points in their upcoming Champions League contest against CSKA Moscow tonight.

Spurs’ return to the continental competition for the first time since the 2010/11 campaign was left sour, following their 2-1 defeat to Monaco earlier in the month.

Since that defeat at Wembley, the north London outfit have managed to win three games in all competitions.

And Pochettino, who is expecting a tough game in Russia, insisted that claiming the three points against CSKA Moscow is vital to his side’s chances of progressing to the knockout round of the Champions League.

“For me, the next game is always difficult”, he told Spurs TV.

“I’m sure it will be a tough game. We need to win as we want to go to the next round.

“It will be difficult, but we believe we can do our job and win the game.

“We need to be patient and perform better than them.”

Spurs, who are currently second in the Premier League with 14 points from six games, however, presently find themselves rock bottom in the Group E of the Champions League.

Tottenham are the only team in the group who are yet to open their account in the Champions League.
