Leeds United defender Gaetano Berardi wants to put his injury riddled past behind him and concentrate on remaining fit for the rest of the season.

The 28-year-old defender has been struggling with injuries since last season, and suffered another setback on the opening day of the current campaign when he was hauled off after just 22 minutes due to a hamstring concern at Queens Park Rangers.

Berardi returned to some football action on Monday night when he played 45 minutes for Leeds Under-23s against Bristol City as he looked to get some minutes under his belt.

Struggling to remain fit since last season, the defender is keen to relegate his injury worries to his past, and wants to look forward as he is even more determined to remain fit for the rest of the season.

Berardi told LUTV: “Last season was good [for me].

“But if I have to think about last season my first thought is the two injuries, which were not good.

“Now I just want to think about the future, and try to be a hundred per cent fit.”

Despite the injuries, Berardi still caught the eye with his performance in 29 appearances for Leeds last season, and will be looking to do the same once he returns to the first team squad after the international break.
