Theo Walcott thinks the performance Arsenal turned in this evening during their 2-0 Champions League win over Basel at the Emirates Stadium will ensure not many sides want to meet the Gunners in their current form.

Arsenal took the lead in the sixth minute at the Emirates Stadium as Walcott connected with a cross from Alexis Sanchez to help the ball into the back of the net.

And Walcott made it 2-0 in the 26th minute as he again combined with Sanchez, playing a one-two with the Chile international and then steering a shot into the corner of the net.

Arsenal were well on top and should have added to their advantage, but the Gunners were kept on their toes in the second half when Birkir Bjarnason hit a thunderous shot which David Ospina needed to tip over the crossbar.

It should have been 3-0 soon after though, but Sanchez shot wide from around six yards out.

Arsenal were dominant, but no further goals arrived as the Gunners closed out the match to claim a 2-0 win and three Champions League group stage points.

And Walcott, who scored both goals, was delighted with the job Arsenal did.

He said on BT Sport after the final whistle: "We were very professional today. The intensity was there from the start, it died off towards the end, but you can understand that.

"It shows how far we have come, we need to move on now to Sunday."

Walcott also feels that Arsenal are paying so well that not many teams will want to play them.

"This team is very strong at the moment and we should be proud.

"Not many teams would like to play us, that is for sure.

"We cannot get ahead of ourselves, we have a lot to do and hopefully the past can change.

"We have so much experience in the Champions League to realise how important that top spot [in the group] is", he added.
