Leeds United Under-23s boss Jason Blunt has revealed that senior side head coach Garry Monk is a regular watcher of the youth team's matches and is well informed on all the talents at the club.

The Yorkshire giants have a tradition of young talent in their academy, and some of their alumni such as Danny Rose, Fabian Delph and Lewis Cook have gone on to play for Premier League clubs.

Leeds are keen to continue to produce players for the first team from their academy, but Blunt admits that some of his players still need to iron out flaws before they can move up a level.

The Under-23s boss admits that new head coach Monk is aware of the young talent in the academy, but Blunt himself feels that his squad still need to do a lot before they can graduate to the first team.

On Monk’s interest in the Under-23 games, Blunt told LUTV: “He usually watches the games, he’ll know about all the kids anyway.

“We are a young side, we are still developing, but a lot of them have got a lot more to do before they can get in and around there.

“The first team are doing extremely well, and it’s now about development, but we still have things within here than we can get better at.”

Monk gave a debut to Leeds academy graduate Tyler Denton in the EFL Cup, and has often spoken about promoting youth into the first team set-up.
