Rangers boss Mark Warburton has expressed his regret about his outburst against the referee during the match against Aberdeen last weekend, but insists that his frustration was justified.

The 54-year-old confronted the referee, John Beaton, at the final whistle after the man concerned penalised right-back James Tavernier for a challenge on Jonny Hayes.

The visiting manager was left fuming as Aberdeen scored from the resulting free-kick, pushing the Gers further down in the league table.

The Scottish FA handed out a one-match touchline ban to the manager, which he could have contested. However, accepting the charge, Warburton has decided that he will not contest the ban as he himself is of the opinion that his actions were uncalled for.

According to Warburton, he is a man of principle and his losing discipline is something that he is not proud of.

However, the manager did not in any way try to hide his frustration with the decision, stating that it was clear that he had been right at the time.

“It is what it is. My frustration over two big decisions hasn’t changed, but it’s the process and it will be a one match ban", Warburton said at a press conference.

“I pride myself hopefully on being respectful and being disciplined, and if I appear to lose that, then you deserve to be punished accordingly for it.

"I’m not proud of that, if that’s the case, but I think the frustration was very evident.

“The two decisions you look at post match and it’s quite clear that we were right in our assumptions of those decisions."
