Rangers defender Philippe Senderos feels new Arsenal signing Granit Xhaka is the future of the Premier League club.

Senderos, who was snapped by Rangers on a free transfer in the summer, joined Arsenal from Servette in 2003.

On the other hand, Arsenal signed Senderos’ compatriot Xhaka on a five-year deal from Borussia Monchengladbach at the beginning of the summer transfer window.

Xhaka has already made his mark at the Emirates Stadium, with the Swiss midfielder scoring twice in eight appearances in all competitions.

And Senderos, who has had a subdued start to his Rangers career after being sent off on his debut earlier in the month, a 5-1 loss to Celtic, has backed his compatriot to become a vital player for Arsenal over the coming years.

"I am pleased that once again a Swiss is playing at Arsenal", Senderos told Swiss daily Blick.

"He is the future!"

Senderos made 113 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal and helped the club to win an FA Cup and a Community Shield.

The 31-year-old, who had loan spells at AC Milan and Everton during his time at the Emirates Stadium, left Arsenal to sign permanently for Fulham in 2010.

However, Senderos insisted that he will forever remember his time at Arsenal.

"I had a great time in London, Arsenal are a big club and they will always be in my heart”, he added.
