Former Leeds United captain Sol Bamba will not be returning to football with Derby County.

The centre-back, who fell out of favour under new Leeds head coach Garry Monk earlier this season and terminated his contract with the Whites before the transfer window closed, had been training with the Rams.

Bamba had asked manager Nigel Pearson if he could train with Derby and the Rams boss agreed. Pearson has since been suspended by the Championship club.

Now, according to the Derby Telegraph, the Rams will not be following up on their interest in Bamba, meaning the 31-year-old will have to look elsewhere for his next club.

Bamba played under Pearson at Leicester City and the Derby boss had admitted to being surprised to see the defender was a free agent.

The centre-back initially joined Leeds on loan from Italian side Palermo before making the switch permanent.

He made a total of 56 appearances for the Yorkshire giants over the course of his stay at Elland Road and was even made club captain due to his impressive and influential performances in the heart of defence.
