Brendan Rodgers has praised Moussa Dembele and for prioritising his development by joining Celtic in the summer.

The striker joined the Hoops from Fulham on a four-year deal in July, despite attracting interest from the Premier League.

Dembele has been a revelation for the Scottish giants, with the 20-year-old scoring 12 games in 16 appearances in all competitions.

The youngster scored a hat-trick in his first Old Firm derby earlier in the month and also netted a brace in the 3-3 draw with Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

And Rodgers, who wants Dembele to maintain his level of performance against Dundee on Saturday, also credited the starlet’s representatives for keeping their client’s development as their main priority.

“The reinforcement of what he’s doing now is why he came, which is about development”, he said in his pre-match press conference on Thursday.

“He could have gone to other huge clubs in England or in Europe, but he came here and was happy to work and to learn and he’s actually loving his life here.

“He is a great boy. It’s nice for him but he has to go out and perform at the same level against Dundee.

“Again I have found his representatives very up-front, very honest, and the riches they could have received as well as the boy, it’s a huge credit to them that they wanted to come and find a different experience where development was the priority.”

Dembele, whose present contract with Celtic runs until 2020, joined Fulham’s academy from Paris Saint-Germain in 2012.

He is yet to earn a senior cap for France, but has represented his nation up to Under-20 level.
