Barnsley manager Paul Heckingbottom admits that he has taken note of Leeds United’s recent tight defensive record, and is expecting a good game at Elland Road today.

Leeds’ four game-winning run came to an end at Ashton Gate on Tuesday when they suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Bristol City, despite playing well on the night.

Following a poor start to the season, Leeds’ defence tightened up last month and it played a key role in helping the Whites to put together a run of good results in recent weeks.

Leeds have conceded just twice in the last five games in all competitions, and Heckingbottom is aware of their recent defensive record, which he admits has been impressive.

And the Barnsley boss is expecting a good atmosphere at Elland Road today in what could turn out to be a good Yorkshire derby.

Heckingbottom said in a press conference: “We’ve been watching them and they’ve really tightened up.

“They’ve been difficult to score against of late and have got some good results off the back of that. Regardless of how they’re playing it’s a derby.

“They’ll have a few fans there and hopefully we’ll sell our full allocation so it should be a real good atmosphere and a real good occasion, a good game of Championship football.”

Leeds are currently 14th in the Championship table on 13 points, just three off Barnsley in 10th.
