Former Liverpool striker Christian Benteke claims that there was nothing wrong with his relationship with Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

The 25-year-old, who left Liverpool for Crystal Palace in the summer, was brought in at Anfield from Aston Villa by Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers.

But after Klopp took charge of the club last October, Benteke’s game time reduced drastically as he did not suit the German’s playing style.

The Belgium international made 36 appearances in all competitions under Klopp, starting just 14 of those games; the 49-year-old deemed Benteke surplus to requirements and sold him to the Eagles for £27m.

However Benteke, who insisted that he has the backing of his new manager Alan Pardew at Crystal Palace, explained that he shared a normal relationship with Klopp.

"It's a new start for me. I have the confidence of the coach [Pardew]”, the forward was quoted as saying by Belgian outlet Voetbal Krant.

"I had a normal relationship with him [Klopp]. There was nothing wrong with it. I learnt last season about the other demands required at the highest level.

“I had to learn to be effective in few minutes.”

Benteke, who scored eight times and provided six assists under Klopp, has already found the back of the net three times in five Premier League matches for Crystal Palace.
