Former Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn has recounted an episode which saw owner Massimo Cellino unhappy at his proposed team selection for a clash against Ipswich Town.

Cellino appointed Redfearn as permanent head coach at Elland Road at the start of November 2014, following a caretaker spell on the part of the academy chief.

For a large portion of Redfearn's reign, Cellino had to stand down from his role at the club however, with the Italian punished by the Football League and as such being out of action until the day after the end of the 2014/15 season.

However, a young Belgian, Andrea Iore, took an internship at the club and was quickly a regular at Leeds' Thorp Arch training ground, checking on the starting eleven for games.

And one team selection relayed to Iore saw Cellino become unhappy, the Italian then placing a call to Redfearn from his home in the United States.

"Andrea used to come along to see what the starting eleven was going to be for the game on Saturday", Redfearn revealed in the pages of Four Four Two magazine.

"For a home match with Ipswich, I decided to go with four central defenders.

"We were working on our shape on the Friday morning before the game, and in the afternoon I got the call from Miami: 'Four centre-backs? What the hell are you doing?

"It was like the Chuckle Brothers – I had to hold the phone at arm's length as he was shouting so much."

Redfearn however plotted victory over Ipswich and the matter died down.

"We won 2-1.

"I didn't hear about it again."

Iore is still at Leeds and was recently pictured sitting next to Cellino in the directors' box. It is unclear what his role is at Elland Road.

Cellino meanwhile has acquired 100 per cent of the club's shares after taking over those previously held by Middle Eastern bank GFH Capital.
