Jason Blunt has saluted the potential coming through the Leeds United academy, with the Under-23s manager making special mention of Samuel Amissah and Callum Nicell, two 16-year-olds he fielded earlier this week.

The young Whites beat Bolton Wanderers 4-3 in a Professional Development League fixture on Wednesday, with the duo coming on as substitutes in the game to get a taste of the action.




With Leeds trailing 3-2 at the Lancashire FA’s County Ground, Amissah scored a long-range stunner in the 83rd minute to equalise for his side before Eoghan Stokes netted his second of the match to help Leeds collect the full three points.

And Blunt, who is impressed with the young talents coming through to the development team, was pleased with the performances of Amissah and Nicell against Bolton given their tender years.
 


Leeds have regularly developed youngsters in recent years, with several, including Kalvin Phillips, now impacting the first team squad.

“We brought 16-year-old Sammy Amissah on. He scored a great goal”, Blunt explained on LUTV.

“So the potential is definitely there.

"Another one seems to pop up, so that's great.

“Callum Nicell came on as a sub, another 16-year-old.”

Leeds, who will next face Millwall in an away league fixture on Monday, are presently sixth in the standings with nine points from seven games, just five adrift of leaders Sheffield Wednesday.
