Former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor has warned the Reds to guard against complacency when they take on Manchester United in the Premier League on Monday night, despite the Red Devils’ unconvincing start to the season.

Manchester United, who appointed Jose Mourinho as their new manager in the summer, drew 1-1 with relegation-threatened Stoke City before the international break.

The Old Trafford outfit presently find themselves seventh in the Premier League with 13 points from seven outings, three points and three places adrift of arch-rivals Liverpool.

On the other hand, Liverpool are in a rich vein of form, with Jurgen Klopp’s team winning their last five matches in all competitions.

However, Mellor urged Liverpool not to take Manchester United lightly as he is certain that Mourinho and company will try to make life difficult for the Reds at Anfield, dubbing the Portuguese's likely tactics "horrible".

“United have been unconvincing this season, but it’s United, it’s Mourinho”, said on LFC TV's preview show.

“They will have their big-match game plan, they will make it horrible for us.

“We’re entertaining, we’re attacking, they’ll just want to come in and disturb us and try and make it difficult for us.”

Manchester United, who lost three consecutive games in all competitions in September, are unbeaten in their last four outings, winning three of those.
