Rangers manager Mark Warburton has warned Celtic that his Gers side have "improved dramatically" since the last meeting between the two clubs.

On 10th September, Warburton took his Rangers side to Parkhead to face Celtic in a Scottish Premiership clash – and the Gers crumbled, going down 5-1 to their fierce rivals.

The result sent shockwaves through Rangers and in the aftermath midfielder Joey Barton was involved in a training ground bust-up with team-mate Andy Halliday, being suspended as a result; he has yet to return to the club.

This Sunday, Rangers again play Celtic, this time in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup.

But Warburton is not expecting a repeat and has warned Celtic that unlike that afternoon at Parkhead, his side have had further time to gel.

And the Rangers manager says his team's performances have become massively better in recent weeks.

"You obviously have to learn. We've moved on, it's six weeks ago", Warburton said on Rangers TV.

"If you remember at the time, we had a number of new players in the squad and the starting eleven, some through injury, we didn't have everyone available.

"But we had Josh [Windass], we had Joe [Dodoo], Philippe [Senderos] coming in, Joe Garner, a number of new players coming into the side and making debuts", the Englishman explained.

"We've moved on. We've gelled as a squad. We're getting better.

"It's early days. We're nine games into the league season, but it's taking shape and our performance level has improved dramatically in the last four or five weeks."

While Rangers have a free week to prepare for the semi-final clash, Celtic have a Champions League game on the agenda on Wednesday night, against Borussia Monchengladbach.
