Rangers boss Mark Warburton has expressed his confidence going into Sunday's League Cup semi-final against Celtic as he believes that his team are starting to take shape after a shaky run of form.

The Old Firm rivalry will resume on Sunday with the two sides coming face to face at Hampden Park in order to determine who plays in the League Cup final.

The 54-year-old manager will be well aware of the fact that the last time his team played against the Hoops they were humbled 5-1 at Parkhead.

However, according to Warburton, things are bound to be different this time around with the team now starting to take shape after a mixed start following a number of new arrivals in the summer.

Criticising the media for having written Rangers off following the loss at Celtic, the manager said that his team have done well and wins against Inverness and Partick Thistle are proof of that.

“The media is such that they look at it and we were dead and buried back then [after the Celtic loss]", Warburton told a press conference ahead of the match.

“We knew that with players coming in it would take time to adapt to the club, the expectation and the change in formation.

“We are about five or six weeks down the road from that now, we are in a better place, we had a good win on Friday and we’re starting to take shape.

“We dropped points against Ross County and Aberdeen when I don’t believe we deserved to but that has gone now and we can’t change that.

“What we have to do is recognise the positives and keeping moving forward."
